It is important for #m to understand that is not the appropriate time to talk so that #h work for the class will be complete. 3=#N focuses on our lessons in class well. This has really helped #m understand the new skills that we are learning in class and it shows in the work #e is producing. Keep up the excellent work! 4=#N comes prepared to class every day. This helps save not only #h time, but also the time of #h partner and small group. I am proud of how responsible #e has shown #s to be this quarter. Keep up the great work! 5=Though #e struggled at first, I have noticed a great improvement in #h focus during class lessons. This will help #m to improve #h understanding of the work we are completing in class. Since one lesson builds on the next, this is an important area to work on. If this improvement continues, #e will be able to achieve even higher marks in the coming weeks. COMMENTS: Ending Remarks 1=I look forward to seeing #N grow and increase #h skills as #e completes grade seven. 2=It was a pleasure to have #N in my class. I wish #m all the best as #e moves to #h new school in the coming quarter. Best wishes! COMMENTS: Intro Remarks 1=We used Reading Workshop lessons for the first part of quarter three. Students learned about character traits and perspective (Point of View) of major and minor characters, author's craft and trademark styles, as well as theme statements from the text. We have nearly completed a novel study for Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and students have continued to learn about figurative language, theme, and author's trademark style. 2=Students have been using a workshop approach to our novel studies during the first part of quarter four. They completed a unit on the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and have just begun our unit on A Night Divided by Jennifer Nielsen. As students use this approach to reading, they develop a deeper understanding of character by analyzing what they want/need, the barriers that get in the way of these things, internal/external conflicts, themes, and perspective. COMMENTS: Plagairism 1=Academic integrity is something we take very seriously at SMIC-I. Plagiarism is a form of academic dishonesty. I expect students to use their own words and voice when writing essays and doing projects. Unfortunately, on a recent project, #N turned in a project that clearly had been taken from the internet without citing any sources and passing the work off as #h own. This caused #m to receive a 0 on the project because it was not redone and turned back in to me. COMMENTS: Tests and Exams 1=#N carefully studied for each of the tests that were given during the quarter. #E took the time necessary to read each question carefully and write full and complete answers. 2=#N had a low test score at the beginning of the quarter, but improved greatly by the time we took the first test. It is always helpful to remember to take extra time to study and ask questions if #e doesn't understand the material before taking assessments. 3=#N struggled with the tests that were given during the quarter. #E needs to spend more time studying as well as reading the questions more carefully before attempting to answer. When writing short answer responses, #e should be sure to include evidence from the text to support the answer as well. 4=Though #N did well earlier in the quarter on the test, #h midterm score was quite low. It is important for #m to study thoroughly for semester exams because they are worth a large portion of the final grade. If #e has questions, I am always available after class or in my office to address things #e may be confused about. COMMENTS: Vocabulary 1=#N has clearly worked diligently learning #h assigned vocabulary words this quarter. #H marks on the weekly quizzes were high and #e was able to use the words learned in our writing assignments. 2=#N needs to spend a bit more time on nightly practice of the vocabulary words in order to improve #h understanding of the words #e was assigned. I expect students to spend 15 minutes per night studying words and a minimum of 20 minutes taking the weekly quizzes. #E spends significantly less time than this and it has an impact on #h ability to learn the words. Having an increased understanding of vocabulary will help #m comprehend what we are reading. COMMENTS: Work Habits - Turning in Work 1=#N has turned in all of the assignments on time showing well developed time management skills. This is an important part of preparing for 8th grade. 2=#N has turned in all of the assignments, though not all of them were completed on time. In the future, #e needs to check PowerSchool more frequently to ensure that all of #h work has been turned in and communicate with me if necessary. 3=#N needs to understand the importance of turning in every assignment on time without missing any. It would be good for #m to check PowerSchool frequently to make sure that #e isn’t missing work for classes. 4=#N needs to understand the importance of turning in every assignment without missing any. #E had many reminders and even an extra help class period to turn in #h missing work. Despite these opportunities, #e completed little to no work over the course of the quarter. Moving forward, it is imperative that #N understand that every assignment must be completed and handed in on time in order for #m to pass Language Arts this year.
