COMMENTS: Art History Juniors Spring 1=Despite the class being mostly seniors, #N frequently leads the class in both effort and insight. #N is keeping up with the accelerating pace of works that we are covering in anticipation of the AP exam in May, and frequently suggests insightful comparisons to prior works we have covered, or works #e has seen elsewhere. I appreciate all that #N is doing this year as a junior, and I appreciate the value #e brings to Art History. Keep up the good work, #N! COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comment - Doing Well 1=#N is a positive and frequently prepared member of our Modern World History class. 2=This is reflected in #h #LetterGrade reading quiz average and #h #LetterGrade planned quiz average. 3=#N is obviously trending in the right direction! #N has also been making appointments and meeting with me outside of class to go over material in advance of assessments, and I continue to be very impressed with the focus and determination #e is bringing to #h studies this year. 4= As the year progresses we will continue to work on #N's writing skills, especially thesis writing and evidence organization. 5=Developing these skills of analytic expression will hopefully strengthen #h #LetterGrade test average. 6=#N is often prepared with intelligent answers to questions in class, but I would love to see #N volunteer #h considerable knowledge on a more regular basis, which would help develop #h own understanding of the material and clarify concepts for others in class. 7= I enjoy having #N in class and look forward to working with #m for the balance of the year. 8=Keep up the good work #N! COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comment Intro 1=#N is a positive and #consistency-ly prepared member of our Modern World History class. I can usually count on #N to make a connection between something we are doing and something related to current events, and typically the reverse can happen as well: I can rely on #N to make a connection from a current event we are discussing to a topic (or two) that we have discussed in the past. 2=#N is a joy to have in class. #E is #consistency-ly prepared, #consistency-ly attentive during our discussions, and #consistency-ly contributes insightful answers to our questions. 3=#N brings a glint in #h eye to every class and is ready to partake in the fun we try to generate in history class. 4=#N is a wonderful presence in our class, and despite a slow start, #e is trending positively in our class after some productive extra help sessions which #e initiated. 5=#N is an enjoyable presence in Modern World History. #N is a steady history student with a #LetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes and a #LetterGrade on #h tests. However, #N pulls #h overall average down by not always being prepared for class, earning #m a #LetterGrade reading quiz average. We have gone over strategies for more effective and efficient preparation in class, and I would be happy to continue to work with #N one-on-one to help develop those skills further. 6=#N injects so much positive energy into our class every single day. If #N has ever had a bad day, I haven't seen it as #e consistently smiles through everything we do. #H positive energy is infectious, and it rubs off on #h classmates who end up being more engaged due to #h presence and attitude. 7=#N has got to be one of our most consistent students this year in any of my classes. #E is always prepared, always attentive during our discussions, and always contributes insightful answers to our questions. 8=#N is a quietly focused member of our class who listens attentively to the responses of others and formulates #h own opinions. 9=#N has produced #Levelofwork so far this fall (and stayed positive!) despite several curveballs thrown #h way. 10=It's been a pleasure getting to know #N this semester. #H performance in class and on assessments has steadily improved over the course of the term, which is directly related to the focus #e has been bringing to class. 11=Despite #N's #injury setback, #e has remained a positive and effective member of our Modern World History class. 12=#N just suffered #aan #injury but you wouldn’t no it from the positive attitude #e brings each day. 13=#N is new to Episcopal, but you would never know it, based on how well #e has adjusted to our class. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Activites 1=In addition to class discussions, we have also tried to bring an experiential approach to history: we have celestially navigated with astrolabes, viewed the Galilean moons of Jupiter through a telescope, taken a VR tour of Versailles, and guillotined "royalist" bagels. We have also debated Columbus Day, capital punishment, and the North Korean Nuclear crisis. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Classwork Grades 1=In order to adapt to our increasingly online environment, students in our class now simply upload their own nightly reading notes for an easy complete/incomplete grade (students who handwrite their notes submit a picture of their notes with the Canvas App). This has replaced daily reading quizzes and rewards consistency of preparation, while gaining more class time. #N #consistency-ly submits #h notes, resulting in #aLetterGrade classwork average. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Conclusion 1=I enjoy having #N in class, and I look forward to working with #m for the balance of the year. Keep up the #LevelofWork, #N! COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Humor 1=#E also has a clever sense of humor which is just beginning to reveal itself - as #e gets more comfortable in class I look forward to more of it! 2=#E also quickly sees the irony and (sometimes dark) humor in the topics we cover, and shares that humor with the class in a constructive way that helps others make connections to other concepts we have covered and/or current events. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments North Korea Debate 1=In the North Korea debate, #N #NorthKoreaDebateRole, and brought both enthusiasm and insight to our discussion, which became more and more heated as the class became comfortable with the topics. The goal was to connect the various revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries (such as the French Revolution) to current events, and we will continue to engage in these student-moderated debates throughout the year. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Overall Grades 1=#N is a strong history student with a #LetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes and a #LetterGrade on #h tests. However, #N pulls #h overall average down by not always being prepared for class, earning #h #LetterGrade classwork average. We have gone over strategies for more effective and efficient preparation, and I would be happy to continue to work with #N one-on-one to help develop these skills further. 2=I am confident that more consistent preparation will in turn help with #h test results, which currently average in the #LetterGrade range. 3=In order to adapt to our increasingly online environment, students in our class now simply upload their own nightly reading notes for an easy complete/incomplete grade (students who handwrite their notes submit a picture of their notes with the Canvas App). This has replaced daily reading quizzes and rewards consistency of preparation, while gaining more class time. #N #consistency-ly submits #h notes, resulting in #aLetterGrade homework and classwork grade average. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Participation 1=#N does a great job of focusing in class. #E is clearly someone who knows that when #e takes #h time and concentrates on the task at hand, #e is capable of very high level work. A few of #N's classmates who often sit near #m are often easily distracted, and #N not only stays on task, but models this focus for #h classmates, bringing them back on task. In this way #N not only gets more out of class, #e also makes our class better for everyone. 2=#N is often prepared with intelligent answers to questions in class, but I would love to see #N volunteer #h considerable knowledge on a more regular basis, which would help develop #h own grasp of the material and clarify concepts for others in class. 3=If there is one area I would like to see #N improve it would be in class discussion. #E obviously has full command of the material and I would like #m to practice explaining it to others to help #h persuasive writing skills and #h public speaking ability. 4=#N's preparation also affects #h participation: when #e is prepared, #e is less easily distracted in class and contributes more to our discussions. 5=Sometimes when good friends sit next to each other in class, it is a recipe that often becomes disruptive and unproductive. I am happy to say the opposite is true of #N. #N is #consistency-ly prepared for class, #e stays on task, and #e also has a calming influence on the students next to #m, who are very capable but occasionally distractible. 6=The good news is that #N always sits directly across from me in class at our round Harkness table, where I can see #h raised hand the most clearly, and as the semester has unfolded #e has been getting that hand up with greater and greater regularity. 7=#N has done a great job of improving the focus of #h energies in class, bringing enthusiasm to our discussions and always volunteering. 8=One area #N has already improved on is class discussion. #E obviously has full command of the material, and every time #e speaks up, it helps others understand the material and helps #h own persuasive writing and public speaking ability. 9=One area #N has already excelled in is class discussion. #E obviously has full command of the material, and every time #e speaks up, it helps others understand the material and helps #h own persuasive writing and public speaking ability. 10=I can sense #N trending up in class participation, getting stronger and stronger with #h expression. #E started the year more reticent to share #h thoughts, but now #e makes contributions regularly, improving #h ability to make connections among concepts. This is just the kind of skill-building we are focusing on in class, and I am impressed by #N's growth in this area. 11=Hopefully as #N's skills improve, #h confidence in #s as a history student will improve as well. #E has so much to contribute but occasionally holds #s back when #e is not sure if #e is right. I look forward to hearing more from #h! It will only help #h written and spoken expression. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Planned Quizzes and Tests Grades 1=#N is a #studenttype history student, earning #aLetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes and #aLetterGrade average on our first test. 2=#N has been inconsistent on our Planned Quizzes so far, averaging #aLetterGrade, but did better on our first test, earning #aLetterGrade. 3=This has helped #N become a steady history assessment taker, earning #aLetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes so far and #aLetterGrade average on our first test. 4=This has helped #N improve as a history assessment taker, earning #aLetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes so far but #aLetterGrade average on our first test. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Reading Quizes 1=This is reflected in #h #LetterGrade reading quiz average and #h #LetterGrade planned quiz average. (#H reading quiz average of #?% is great evidence of #N's attention to detail and focus on preparation). 2=This is reflected in #h #LetterGrade reading quiz average and #h #LetterGrade planned quiz average. 3=However, #N pulls #h overall average down by not always being prepared for class, earning #h #LetterGrade reading quiz average. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Syria Debate 1=In the Syria debate, #N #SyriaDebateRole, and brought both enthusiasm and insight to our discussion, which became more and more heated as the class became comfortable with the topics. The goal was to connect the various revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries (such as the French Revolution) to current events, and we will continue to engage in these student-moderated debates throughout the year. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Test Prep 1=#N and I have discussed ways to more actively prepare for upcoming tests, such as compiling a review outline, making #h own paper or Quizlet flashcards sets, etc., and making sure time is actively set aside from #h busy schedule to do that active review before a test. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Comments Writing Skills 1=#N's first long essay showed a strong level of detail and logic ahead of where most students are at this time of year. As the year progresses we will continue to work on #N's writing skills, especially thesis writing and evidence organization. 2=#N's first long essay showed a level of detail and logic on par with where most students are at this time of year. As the year progresses we will continue to work on #N's writing skills, especially thesis writing and evidence organization. 3=#N's first long essay showed some good organization but could have used a greater level of detail and logic. As the year progresses we will continue to work on #N's writing skills, especially thesis writing and evidence organization. COMMENTS: MWH Fall Multiple Choice 1=Most assessments this year, including multiple choice tests, are open-book and open-note due to the mix of in-person and online students, which means the tests focus more on preparation, reading ability, and analysis. #N stumbled on the first multiple choice assessment, and we have discussed ways to engage in more active preparation (review outlines, Quizlet, extra help sessions with the teacher, etc.) prior to tests. 2=Most assessments this year, including multiple choice tests, are open-book and open-note due to the mix of in-person and online students, which means the tests focus more on preparation, reading ability, and analysis. #N is a careful reader and logical thinker, which helped #m perform very well on the first multiple choice test. COMMENTS: MWH MC Rewrite 1=#N took advantage of our multiple choice rewrite policy however and gained back the maximum four points, which will both help #h average and hopefully lead to better performance on multiple choice questions generally. 2=In the future I encourage #N to take advantage of our multiple choice rewrite policy to gain back up to four points (within a one week time frame after the test is returned), which would both help #h average and hopefully lead to better performance on multiple choice questions generally. COMMENTS: MWH Mid-Fall Comment - Better Prep 1=#N brings an enjoyable presence to Modern World History. 2= #N is a strong history student with a #LetterGrade average for #h planned quizzes and a #LetterGrade on #h tests. 3= However, #N pulls #h overall average down by not always being prepared for class, earning #h #LetterGrade reading quiz average. 4=That being said, #N always has insightful comments which #e shares with the class, and #h contributions make class enjoyable and interesting for all. 5=We will continue to work on #N's writing skills, especially thesis writing and evidence organization, during the year, and hopefully we can make consistency of preparation part of #h skill base as well. 6= I look forward to working with #m for the balance of the year. Keep up the good work #N! COMMENTS: MWH Spring Closing 1=#N has found an excellent balance of fun and focus in class. I have been very impressed with #h progress this semester and I look forward to working with #m for the balance of the year. Keep up the good work, #N! 2=I have been very impressed with #h desire to make progress this semester and I look forward to working with #m for the balance of the year. Keep up the good work, #N! COMMENTS: MWH Spring Debate Skills 1=#N is also a spirited debater in class, where we have taken on such topics as the causes and effects of World War I, and what to do about North Korea's current missile program. #E not only argues points with logic, but also listens well to opposing viewpoints. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Intro 1=#N has demonstrated that #e can produce work of the highest caliber in History class. 2=#N has made steady progress throughout the semester. 3=After a difficult start #N has done some excellent work and is now back on target. 4=#N is a positive and hard-working member of the class, and #h performance has been both steady and strong throughout the semester. #H #consistency preparation is reflected in #h #LetterGrade Homework Submission average. 5=#N is almost always the first to contribute information in our class and #h willingness to get conversations going about historical events helps others in the class engage in the conversation. 6=#N has really come alive in class this semester. #N speaks up with concise comments and insightful questions that contribute to our discussions and help others understand the material better. 7=#N continues #h strong performance from fall semester. #N is a student who follows along with class discussion and often knows the answers to questions asked in class, but #e is reticent to speak up and either keeps #h answer very low, or prefers to let others take a stab at the question. When #e does speak up, however, #e demonstrates an excellent grasp of the concepts we are working on. 8=I was scrolling down my list of students, trying to decide which comment to write first, and #N's name jumped out. 9=#N has roared into the second semester. Straight As across the board on quizzes and tests. 10=#N has shown the ability to do very strong work in Modern History and #e came into the second semester scoring strong #generalgrades on our Planned Quizzes and Tests to date. 11=#N brings a glint in #h eye to every class and is ready to partake in the fun we try to generate in history class. 12=#N is a positive and consistently prepared member of our Modern World History class. This preparation is reflected in #h #LetterGrade Homework Submission average. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Positive Character Comments 1=#N is confident, positive and a great role model for #h classmates. 2=#N is frequently among the first to help and mentor other classmates. #E is a valuable part of the classroom. 3=#N has shown excellent ability to set goals and be persistent in achieving them. 4=#N is interested in #h own learning, listens attentively, and makes a solid effort to avoid distractions that could interrupt the learning process. 5=#N is accountable and responsible. #E makes smart decisions, admits mistakes and listens to opportunities to improve. 6=#N relates well to classmates and is appreciative of different perspectives and experiences. 7=#N manages #h emotions maturely and responds to feedback appropriately. 8=#N always looks for ways to be helpful in the classroom. 9=#N is dependable and reliable, follows directions effectively, and follows through on #h commitments to #s and others. 10=#N is thoughtful, insightful and thorough in written and verbal communication, and has a talent for expressing #h ideas clearly. 11=#N works well with classmates in group work and often takes a leadership role. 12=#N shows a positive attitude with classmates in group projects and activities, and both takes and gives suggestions and directions effectively. 13=#N shows maturity when solving problems with classmates and uses good communication. 14=#N excels at applying what #e learns in the classroom to real-world and real-life situations. 15=It has been a pleasure to have #N’s enthusiasm, positivity and maturity in my class. 16=#N is an enthusiastic member of the class and shows a strong willingness to learn. 17=#N shows responsible behavior, works well with a group and shows appreciation for the efforts of classmates. 18=#N is focused during class and contributes ideas willingly. 19=#N performs independent work with confidence and focus. 20=#N works independently and takes pride in work done well. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Preparation 1=#N would accomplish more and likely enjoy class more if #e prepared for class on a more regular basis. As of now, #h classwork grade (based on homework submissions) is #a-an #LetterGrade. There is time to pull this up for the balance of the semester, and more consistent preparation will also translate into better results on assessments. 2=#N continues #h consistent homework preparation from the Fall semester, and this has made #m a consistent contributor in class. I welcome #h insights, which always make the class better, and I only wish #e shared more of #h thoughts with our class, who would benefit from #h thinking. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Stock Market 1=#N has also taken to our Stock Market Simulation which we have just begun in class to help connect the historical topics we have studied (such as the Great Depression) to current events. 2=In this regard #e has already contributed to some lively and insightful discussions on risk, reward, and the effect of political, economic and social events on stock prices. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Unique Qualities 1=I was scrolling down my list of students, trying to decide which comment to write first, and #N's name jumped out. #N makes every class a joy. #E asks great questions, #e shares great comments, and #e is one of the most thoughtful students that I have ever had the pleasure of teaching. #H school work reflects #h attitude and diligence. 2=As I considered what to write about #N, it occurred to me that every single class this year, #N has smiled - and with #N #h smile always comes with something #e is excited to talk about, often a connection between class topics and a current event that #e helps the class provide context for. #N is not just positive - #e is relentlessly positive in a way that is infectious and constructive, without being shrill or irrelevant. 3=Our class is blessed to have a remarkable combination of individuals who are all terrific in their own way, and #N distinguishes #s even among this group as someone who positively affects the groups #e is in, and it is clear from #h friends how much they appreciate #h energy and enthusiasm. 4=Just last week we had a class that included a quick review of concepts about the start of World War I, and #N was rattling of connections left and right, much to delighted surprise of #h friends sitting near #m in class. It was a great moment because #N never comes across as someone who shows off #h knowledge or skills - #e simply is contributing to make the class better, and #e has seen how rewarding it can be to to use prior historical knowledge to put a future event in context. 5=#N is a positive and consistently prepared member of our Modern World History class. #N sits right next to me in class at our large oval table, and occasionally this can be the refuge of someone who wants to stay out of the field of view of the teacher. However, for #N it is #h way of being right in the middle of the action. 6=#N has taken to sitting right across from me in class at our large oval table, and for #N it is #h way of being right in the middle of the action. 7=#H considerable sense of humor has also revealed itself - #e lies in wait for the right moment and then has a great pun that is very cleverly put together and delivered (much more cleverly than #h teacher). 8=#N has always had positive enthusiasm in our class, but recently #e has been harnessing that enthusiasm in way that has made #m a very effective history student. COMMENTS: MWH Spring Writing 1=#N's analytical skills (both written and oral) have continued to improve, and #e will have additional opportunities throughout the Spring to develop #h writing and advocacy skills, especially in our Research Paper project and later in our Model United Nations project. COMMENTS: MWH Tests Intro 1=#N has performed well on our recent multiple choice tests, highlighting #h ability to connect concepts rather than just regurgitate facts. 2=This hasn't always translated into success on assessments, however, and I encourage #m to come talk to me about how #e prepares for quizzes and tests. 3=To accommodate the "unique" nature of Mother Nature this year, we adjusted our testing protocol to maximize substantive learning and skill development, while (hopefully) reducing stress related to the interrupted routine. COMMENTS: MWH WWI Intro 1=Our World War I test was a multiple choice test in class, combined with a take home essay test with a variety of topics on causes and effects of the so-called "Great War". The topics were designed to elicit connections among events surrounding the war while providing the opportunity for the student to put together a well-crafted essay. COMMENTS: MWH WWI Performance 1=In earning a #LetterGrade, #N compiled some good evidence about World War I in #h essay, but #e should work on making better connections between #h evidence and #h thesis. 2=#N's essay was excellent, connecting well chosen evidence with a logically developed thesis statement to earn an #LetterGrade. 3=#N's essay, which earned a #LetterGrade, did not rise to the level of writing that I have come to expect from #N, and we have discussed both how the essay came up short and how to improve for the next writing assessment (in this case the Spring Research Paper). COMMENTS: MWH WWII Intro 1=To balance the all-writing assessment on World War I, our World War II test was all multiple choice to develop skills in that area for future objective tests such as the final exam and SAT II subject tests. COMMENTS: MWH WWII Performance 1=#N #performed this test, answering #? out of 50 correctly to earn #aan #LetterGrade. COMMENTS: Sample intro sentences 1=#N has had a mixed #Time-period but there are signs of improvement in #h behaviour of late. 2=#N has made steady progress throughout the #Time-period and I expect #m to do well in #h exams next year. 3=After a difficult start #N has done some excellent work and is now back on target. A very pleasing #Time-period, well done #N! 4=#N is a friendly and hard-working member of the class and has put in a steady performance throughout the #Time-period. 5=Overall #N has worked very well but there are a few issues with #h time-keeping and homework that #e needs to address. 6=We have been working on the Environmental Issues module throughout the #Time-period. #N seems to enjoy this topic and has made very pleasing progress. COMMENTS: Sample project-work sentences 1=#E has worked hard this year on all of #h projects but I was especially impressed with the high-quality of #h #Science-topics assignment. 2=Project-work has been done to a minimum standard and is often handed in late. To improve #e needs to #How-to-improve. 3=Although #h #Science-topics project-work was satisfactory, I do expect #m to do more background research next time. 4=#E produced a very good piece of work for the #Science-topics assignment. We were all very impressed with #h creative and entertaining website designs which were an inspiration to the class. 5=#H project-work has varied considerably, however #h highly-imaginative #Science-topics project was excellent and was displayed in reception at the School Open Day. An excellent achievement #N. COMMENTS: Sample summing-up sentences 1=#N has achieved a well-deserved Level #? overall. An excellent performance, well done #N. 2=#N has reached Level #?. This was #h target and #e should be proud of #s. To ensure #e keeps this up next year #e should #How-to-improve. 3=#N has achieved a Level #? overall. With a little more effort #e could reach Level #?. To improve #e should #How-to-improve. 4=#N has not had the best of starts this year and is still working at Level #?. To achieve more next year #e needs to #How-to-improve.
