A very pleasing #Time-period. Well done #N! 12=Overall #N has worked very well but there are a few issues with #h time-keeping and homework that #e needs to address. 13=#N is a friendly member of the group who displays considerable interest in the subject although #e finds it difficult. 14=#N is an able and reserved member of the group who displays a quiet interest in the subject. 15=#N is a reserved member of the group who displays a quiet interest in the subject and participates in practical work with enthusiasm. 16=#N is a reserved member of the group who displays a quiet interest in the subject. 17=#N has had a mixed #Time-period but there are signs of improvement in #h behaviour of late. 18=#N has had a mixed #Time-period but there are signs of improvement in #h work of late. COMMENTS: 1. Introduction Concerns 1=#N has found some aspects of this course a struggle 2=#N has found many of the key concepts confusing so far 3=#N has found the course quite challenging so far 4=However, #e is prone to rushing at #h work, leading to silly mistakes and unnecessary confusion, something that must be studiously avoided as exams approach. Lots of exam practice and careful review of errors should help to improve things 5=#N's attitude towards #h work and #h effort in lessons are very inconsistent; although when the effort is applied #e can produce a high standard of work. 6=#N struggles to be organised, as a result #e is often late to lessons and homework is often late or incomplete. 7=#N thinks school work is unimportant - just aims to "get by" 8=#N difficulty responding to classroom rules & procedures 9=Science does not come easily to #N and #e needs to concentrate on learning basic facts. 10=#N does not find Physics an easy subject to understand, and as a result appears to lack the motivation required to grasp the key concepts and information, which would allow #m to succeed. 11=#Nin general is quiet during lessons, although #e can allow #s to become a bit distracted and unfocused by those around #m. 12=#N has made limited progress in science this year. #H effort in lessons is very inconsistent, and as a result affects #h rate of progress. 13=#N is keen to do well in Science, although #e finds the subject difficult to understand at times. 14=#N has made a bit of a disappointing start to the IGCSE Science programme. 15=#E needs to develop a more mature focused attitude towards #h work and learning, only then will #e see significant progress. 16=#N has made a bit of a disappointing start to the IGCSE Physics programme. 17=#N has made a very average start to the IGCSE Physicsprogramme. 18=#N has not shown the level of commitment required to ensure that #e learns the basic facts and level of detail required for a reasonable grade. 19=# has not yet shown the commitment to #h work that is necessary to achieve a reasonable grade in GCSE Physics. COMMENTS: 10. Post exams / leavers 1=#N is a very able student who obtained a very encouraging mock examination result. 2=I am very pleased with #N's mock exam grade and it is above #h recent assessment grades. 3=#E does not find many problems with the work, but #e must resist the temptation to be complacent. 4=#E still needs more practice answering the extended level questions as these probe #h understanding of the more subtle ideas. 5=#N has continued to work hard and the encouraging result of #h mock examination would suggest that #e did revise for this over the holiday. 6=#H main task this term is to master the language of the extended level theory paper, both in fully understanding what is being asked and also in expressing #h answers precisely and accurately. 7=#N has continued to try in a subject which #e does not find easy, and #e earned a very creditable result. 8=However, evidence from the baseline tests which all students sit would suggest that #e is capable of better still. 9=Considering the amount of work which #N has had to catch up from last year by missing year 10, the mock examination result was very pleasing. 10=#N has difficulty in expressing #s in English which is holding #m back, particularly when writing long answer responses. 11=#E gained a very respectable grade in the core level questions which suggest that #e can cope with the basic concepts very easily and I would recommend that #e now studies for the extended level examination in May. 12=To help #m further #h grade, there are #? voluntary support sessions which take place after school on #?, when either Mr. #?or myself will be able to help #m on #h specific problems. 13=The main area that #e needs to work on is #h ability to understand exactly what the extended level questions are asking and then to answer them in a clear and precise way. 14=This will be achieved by continuous practice of extended-level examination questions during the revision programme. 15=It is clear that #N did undertake some revise before the mock examination, but #m result clearly shows that there are numerous topics which #e struggles with. 16=I would recommend that #e enters for the core level examination, in which a maximum of a C grade is available. At this level, the questions are more straightforward and, I think, better suited for #h ability in Physics. 17=It is clear that #e did very little revision over the holidays and #e needs to change this if #e is to have any chance of passing with a good grade in May. 18=Doing the assigned work in class and for homework will not be enough; #e must have the self-discipline to do the large amount of revision which is necessary, in #h own time. COMMENTS: 2. Knowledge 1=#E speaks and writes about physics ideas in considerable detail, showing a confident use of physics terminology. 2=#E has developed an excellent general physics knowledge and is always willing to share #h ideas with the rest of the class during discussions. 3=#E has developed a good general physics knowledge and is always willing to share #h ideas with the rest of the class during discussions. 4=#E does tend to rush #h work, resulting in careless mistakes, whether in written answers or practical work. Also, #e can get confused because #e doesn't always listen to instructions carefully enough. 5=#E has found this subject challenging but has continued to put effort into every lesson. 6=#E has tried hard this year but has made slow progress in some areas. 7=#E has made steady progress this year and has demonstrated #Type understanding of many of the topics we have covered. 8=I think that #e has much better understanding of this subject than #e shows in #h written work. 9=#E shows #type understanding of this subject, #ButAnd is making #Type1 progress. 10=There has been an improvement in #h work compared with last year, but there is still room for #m to make further progress. 11=#E is finding this subject difficult and has made slow progress in some areas. 12=#E is finding this subject challenging and has made slow progress in some areas. 13=#E has developed a good general physics knowledge. However, #e is somewhat reluctant to share #h ideas with the rest of the class during discussions. 14=#E continues to find this subject challenging, but has not sort help with problems. COMMENTS: 3. Progress 1=#N is an enthusiastic learner who is willing to learn 2=#E speaks and writes about scientific ideas in considerable detail, showing a confident use of scientific terminology. 3=#E has developed excellent general scientific knowledge and is always willing to share #h ideas with the rest of the class during discussion. 4=#E has developed a good general scientific knowledge and is always willing to share #h ideas with the rest of the class during discussion. 5=#E is able to link different definitions together to solve technical problems / complex problems. 6=#E uses #h analytical skills to good effect and asks very perceptive questions 7=Although #e has an excellent subject #e must avoid being complacent about studying the key concepts and completing set work. 8=#E often forgets to include units in #h answers. This could lead to significant marks being lost in tests and is something #e needs to work on. 9=#E works with some enthusiasm in class and regularly contributes to class discussion. However, #h written work is often superficial and/or incomplete and in tests #e relies heavily on #h excellent grasp of scientific principles rather than spending time on revision 10=#E does not find the subject easy, but #e has considerable ability, particularly in the more mathematical aspects of the subject and sometimes seems surprised by #h own success. #E needs to revise basic facts thoroughly to give #s more confidence as #e approaches exams. 11=I am fairly pleased with the progress #N has made this year in physics but #e has a lot more to do to reach #h potential. 12=#E has made steady progress and is now able to understand scientific theories and processes thoroughly. 13=#E has made steady progress and has a good understanding of the scientific theories and processes covered so far. 14=#N does not find the subject easy, but #e has worked conscientiously this year. However, #e is prone to making silly mistakes which lead to unnecessary confusion. #E needs to take a little more time over #h work, particularly in exams where #e seems to panic at times. 15=#E started the year in a rather laid back fashion, but #e is now working with the sort of urgency that one expects as #e approaches exams. 16=However, #h grasp of fundamental concepts is somewhat insecure and I feel that this is holding #m back and making it difficult for #m to understand new material. 17=I would like to see #m improve #h subject knowledge to give a greater flexibility and depth in #h answers. COMMENTS: 3. Progress Concerns 1=#E has a weak grasp of the concepts studied but needs to increase #h knowledge of basic scientific facts if #e is to improve before the exams. 2=#E has trouble grasping scientific theories, procedures and is not very successful in recalling data and analysing information. 3=#E has trouble grasping Scientific theories and procedures, #e struggles to recall data and analyse information. 4=#E has difficulty in identifying the relevant methods to problem solving. 5=I would like to see #m improve #h subject knowledge to give a greater flexibility and depth in #h answers. 6=#E has found the work difficult this year but #e should achieve a reasonable grade if #e applies #s fully. 7=I am fairly pleased with the progress #N has made this year in physics but #e has a lot more to do to reach #h potential. 8=#E has real difficulties with mathematical aspects of Science. 9=#E would find that it is much more efficient and productive to ask questions when #e has problems: #e remains very reluctant to ask during lessons. 10=#E has found some aspects of the course a challenge. 11=#E has difficulty in identifying the relevant methods to problem solving. 12=#E has made limited progress in understanding the theories and processes covered so far. 13=#N does not find Physics an easy subject to understand, and as a result appears to lack the motivation required to grasp the key concepts and information, which would allow #m to succeed. COMMENTS: 4. Written Work 1=The quality of #h written work has been consistently excellent, both in terms of content and presentation. 2=The general quality of #h written work has been consistently very good, both in terms of content and presentation. 3=#E works methodically and is able to present assignments that are of top quality. 4=#E is continuing to develop into a capable scientist with a positive attitude towards #m work. #E produces a good standard of written work. 5=I am pleased that #e is making good use of the after-school support sessions, but this will not replace the considerable amount of hard revision which #e must do at home. 6=#N works very hard and is determined to excel #h written answers are always well presented, showing a clear understanding of the question. 7=#E written answers are usually correct but #h I would like to see the work backed up with scientific reasoning or supporting evidence. 8=Most of #h answers are correct but there is little evidence to support their work and consolidate #h understanding 9=Whilst most of the written work is satisfactory I would like to see more of an effort to explain #h answers in more scientific depth rather than just reading from the text. 10=#H written work often displays an excellent scientific understanding but #e needs to spend a little more time on the presentation of #h work. 11=#H written work often displays an understanding of the areas #e is comfortable with but there are many questions left unanswered in #h book. I would like to see some additional research to attempt to answer these questions or seek support to do so. 12=#E writes very concisely but sometimes misses important details. #E needs to start challenging ideas and concepts and not just accepting them to allow #m to deepen #h understanding. 13=#H written work has been very variable, occasionally excellent, but too often superficial and/or rushed. 14=#N's attitude towards #h work and #h effort in lessons are very inconsistent; although when the effort is applied #e can produce a high standard of work. 15=However, #h written work, while usually acceptable, is rarely as detailed or as well presented as I would wish. 16=#N has missed a number of lessons #e needs to ensure that #e catches up on any missed work, seeking help if needed, to understand the missed work. 17=#E does, however, tend to rush at #h work, resulting in careless mistakes, whether in written answers or practical work. Also, #e can get confused when #e doesn't always listen to instructions carefully enough. 18=#E sometimes seems to rush through #h work instead of going through it in detail. Thus sacrificing accuracy for unnecessary speed in written work. 19=#N needs to become more independent and have more faith in #s, using different sources of information to develop #h understanding of a concept. COMMENTS: 5. Practical Work 1=#N has developed good practical skills and can carry out complex practical procedures accurately. 2=#N has developed basic practical skills and can carry out straightforward experimental investigations with guidance and under supervision 3=#E enjoys practical work although struggles slightly in following a sequence of instructions but this will develop with time and practice. 4=#E enjoys practical work although struggles slightly in following a sequence of instructions but this will develop with time and practice. 5=#E enjoys practical work although is still unsure of #h abilities preferring to work under close supervision and guidance. 6=#E enjoys practical work although #e must make sure that they have recorded all of the data into a table and evaluated their results. 7=#N does not carry out practical work productively and as a result does not collect the data to draw valid conclusions. 8=#E does not manage #h time well during practical work and often does not include enough results or write a conclusion. 9=#E does not leave themselves enough time during practical work to write up the investigation and form conclusions from their data to link to the theory. 10=#N is unable tocarry out practical work in a safe and productive manner which means #e #h left with little data to work with and draw conclusions. 11=#E has a fair grasp of some scientific vocabulary and can carry out simple practical investigations under supervision. COMMENTS: 6. Communication 1=#N is willing to share, cooperate in a group setting, to voice feelings and opinions and to listen to the opinions of others. 2=#N helps to maintain a cooperative working environment by interacting appropriately and by accepting a share of the responsibility for completing a task. 3=#N helps to maintain a cooperative working environment by interacting appropriately and by accepting a leadership role for completing a task. 4=#N is able to participate in a cooperative team effort when working with a small group. 5=#N has worked very hard this year and made real progress and is beginning to show more confidence in class. 6=#N has worked steadily and #h oral contributions display a much greater understanding and insight than #h written work. 7=#N needs to take a more active role during group work and discussions in order to improve #h self-confidence. 8=#E contributes in class discussions but needs to be more willing to volunteer #h thoughts and opinions without the teacher needing to persuade #m. 9=#E sometimes struggles to understand some theoretical concepts; however, #e is always willing to discuss these issues with the teacher in order to enhance #h knowledge on the topic being covered. 10=#N is generally quiet during lessons, although #e can allow #s to become a little distracted and unfocused by those around #m. 11=#E is not a keen participant during class discussions and activities but can suggest original ideas when coaxed. 12=#E would find that it is much more efficient and productive to ask questions when #e has problems: #e remains very reluctant to ask during lessons. 13=#E needs to start challenging ideas and concepts and not just accepting them to allow #m to deepen #h understanding. COMMENTS: 7. Homework 1=#^ has an excellent record for completing homework to a high standard. 2=#E has a good record for completing homework and usually achieves respectable marks for #h efforts. 3=#N has a consistently good record for homework and punctuality. 4=#E has produced good quality homework on a regular basis 5=#N has regularly completed homework. 6=#N has regularly completed homework to a good standard. 7=#E should be commended for the effort #e has put into homework which have resulted in some excellent pieces of homework this term. 8=#E has a mixed record for completing homework. 9=#N has a poor record for completing and handing in homework. 10=#H homework has not been to the standard that is required, lacks detail, and is often rushed. COMMENTS: 8. Final statements 1=#N is a very talented and enthusiastic student who displays all the attributes of a successful young scientist. 2=#E has found the work difficult this year but #e should achieve a reasonable grade if #e applies #s fully. 3=Overall, an impressive #? keep up the good work! 4=A reasonable year overall but #e really needs to work on #h areas of weakness next year. 5=#N is unafraid to challenge a concept an essential quality in a scientist. #E has a mature and methodical attitude to work which #e demonstrates in practical and written situations. 6=#E has maintained #h interest in studying Physics throughout and has made good progress. #E is among the leading members of #m group. 7=If #N will put forth in the future the effort #e has shown in the past #? reporting periods, #e will receive a great deal from #h schooling. 8=#N has made many fine contributions to our class and is an inspiration to #h classmates. 9=With #N's friendly, cooperative attitude, #e will always be a pleasant addition to any class. 10=#E could achieve an excellent grade in the summer but #e needs to broaden #h knowledge by reading and revising so that #e can tackle open-ended questions more fully. 11=I feel confident that with a sustained effort #h attainment in the #? will improve. 12=To continue to improve #N need to listen carefully to instructions in all lessons, put suitable effort into the completion of written work and use available opportunities to get assistance. 13=#N has the potential to achieve great things in science so #e must work hard to increase #h knowledge and understanding, particularly at the higher levels. 14=#N needs to make sure that #e looks to maintain a high level of focus to allow #m to reach #h potential. 15=#N has expressed a desire to sit the core paper for IGCSE, where a maximum grade is a C. I would encourage #m to be more confident in their ability and push themselves a little harder in order to achieve a better grade in the extended paper. 16=#N is a quiet during lessons, #e joins in class discussions when directly asked, it would be nice to see #m volunteering more input in these discussions. 17=#N attitude and focus in lessons is much improved from last year and is reflected in this year's attainment and progress. 18=#E is continuing to develop into a capable scientist with a positive attitude towards #h work. 19=#N needs to become more independent and have more faith in #s, using different sources of information to develop #h understanding of a concept. 20=#E started the year in a rather laid back fashion, but #e is now working with the sort of urgency that one expects as #e approaches exams. COMMENTS: 9. Final statements - concern 1=#E does not find the subject easy, and #e needs to revise the basic facts thoroughly to gain more confidence as #e approaches the exams. 2=#N must ensure that #e maintains #h level of motivation and focus as #e can be easily distracted by those around #m; occasionally becoming the distracting influence #s. 3=#E needs to develop a more mature focused attitude towards #h work and learning, only then will #e see significant progress. 4=#N has made a bit of a disappointing start to the IGCSE Science programme and needs to listen to the advice given to make further progress. 5=#N is looking to sit the extended paper for #h IGCSE but I am afraid that unless #h work ethic improves #e will only be capable of producing a decent grade on the core paper. 6=#N has not shown the level of commitment required to ensure that #e learns the basic facts and level of detail required for a reasonable grade. 7=#N has not yet shown the commitment to #h work that is necessary to achieve a reasonable grade in GCSE Physics. 8=#N should ensure #e attends the school's revision programme if #e wishes to meet #m target grade in the June exam session. 9=Science does not come easily to #N and #e needs to concentrate on learning basic facts. 10=#N does not find Physics an easy subject to understand, and as a result appears to lack the motivation required to grasp the key concepts and information, which would allow #m to succeed. 11=#N needs to develop a more mature attitude and focus on #h classwork, a focus so far lacking this year. 12=#N struggles to be organised and as a result, #e is often late to lessons and homework is often late or incomplete. 13=#N needs to focus more during lessons, as the work that is being taught is more important than the time #e spends chatting to #h friends. COMMENTS: Homework 1=#^ has an excellent record for completing homework to a high standard. A very pleasing #Time-period. Well done #N! 4=#N is a friendly and hard-working member of the class and has put in a steady performance throughout the #Time-period. 5=Overall #N has worked very well but there are a few issues with #h time-keeping and homework that #e needs to address. 6=We have been working on the Environmental Issues module throughout the #Time-period. #N seems to enjoy this topic and has made very pleasing progress. COMMENTS: Sample project-work sentences 1=#E has worked hard this year on all of #h projects but I was especially impressed with the high-quality of #h #Science-topics assignment. 2=Project-work has been done to a minimum standard and is often handed in late. To improve #e needs to #How-to-improve. 3=Although #h #Science-topics project-work was satisfactory, I do expect #m to do more background research next time. 4=#H project-work is always excellent as demonstrated in #h #Science-topics assignment. We were all very impressed with #h creative and entertaining website designs which were an inspiration to the class. 5=#H project-work has varied considerably, however #h highly-imaginative #Science-topics project was excellent and was displayed in reception at the School Open Day. An excellent achievement #N. COMMENTS: Sample summing-up sentences 1=#N always tries #h best and has achieved a well-deserved Level #? overall. An excellent performance, keep it up! 2=#N has reached Level #?. This was #h target and #e should be proud of #s. To ensure #e keeps this up next year #e should #How-to-improve. 3=#N has achieved a Level #? overall. #E often works below #h best and with a little more effort #e could easily reach Level #?. To improve #e should #How-to-improve. 4=#N has not had the best of starts this year and is still working at Level #?. #E rarely completes #h work on time.
