Introduction
The unit 'A contrasting locality overseas - Tocuaro' introduced # to a distant locality through the aspects of life that will be familiar to * such as housing, cooking and going to school. The unit is based on a small area. This allowed * to compare it more easily with ~ own local area. The unit was based on a pack produced by The Geographical Association about the village of Tocuaro in Mexico. The main focus of the unit was on knowledge and understanding of places. It was intended as an introduction to looking at a distant locality and therefore used selected information for # to work with. The unit offered * links to art and design, PSHE and citizenship, history and literacy. The unit's links with other curriculum areas such as art and design gave * a more rounded view of a place.
