Introduction
The unit 'Animals and us' introduced # to the idea of rights and responsibilities through exploring the issues related to issues of animal welfare. ^ also found out about voluntary/community organisations that campaign on animal welfare issues. 

# learnt about ~ basic human needs and the needs of animals. ^ learnt that humans have a responsibility of care towards different kinds of animals - including pets and wildlife. In later sections of the unit ^ learnt about the role of local and national voluntary organisation concerned with animal welfare. These activities contributed to career-related learning, and developed #'s sense of responsibility towards animals. ^ learnt about the effect that ~ choices and ~ behaviour can have, at both a local and a national level.

^ appreciated that there are problems in the UK regarding pet ownership, and that even though some people might want a pet, they would not always make suitable owners.
^ knows the importance of choosing the right pet, and understands the responsibility involved in providing a suitable home for ~ chosen pet.
