The work in this unit also offered # a number of opportunities to relate ~ understanding of science to the local environment, to consider how ^ should treat living things and the environment with care and sensitivity and to recognise hazards to *self and ~ peers and to how ^ could take action to control ~ risks from these hazards. " Living Things Section 2: Looking for plants and animals ^ was able to identify a number of different plants e.g. dandelion, daisy, buttercup, daffodil, oak tree, holly tree, cherry tree and animals e.g. worm, snail, robin, sparrow, caterpillar, fly. ^ has stated where some of these were found e.g. the daisies were in the grass, the snails were under the bucket by the wall. ^ has produced a record which clearly showed the living things ^ has seen and where ^ found them. " Description Section 3: Describing local habitats ^ was able to identify the differences between two different habitats and living things found there e.g. by drawing and interpreting a picture saying whether ^ had found what ^ had expected there. ^ is able to suggest ~ own reasons for the differences between two different habitats and living things found there e.g. it's too dry under the tree, there isn't any soil in the playground but spiders live between the bricks. " Seeds Section 4: Flowering plants ^ was able to state that seeds come from the flower of a plant. ^ has suggested fruits and seeds which could be added to the class collection. ^ has added to fruits and seeds to the class collection. ^ has recognised the huge variety of seeds from which plants grow. " Growing Seeds Section 5: Growing seeds Children: ^ was able to suggest what ^ should plant seeds in e.g. soil or water and what ^ should be able to see if they grow. ^ has, with help, produced a record of ~ observations and discussed with ~ peers and ~ class teacher what the results showed to *. ^ is able to state that seeds grow into plants. ^ is able to explain that seeds need water, but not necessarily soil, to begin to grow. " Comparisions Section 6: Comparing growing conditions ^ was able to recognise that a test where two factors were changed e.g. ~ growing medium and the amount of water ~ had added did not provide a fair comparison. " Growth Section 7: Animal reproduction and growth ^ is able to recognise that animals in their local environment produce young. ^ has described how one animal changed as it grew e.g. a tadpole to a frog or a baby bird to an adult.
